Firewall Issues

Firewalls

Your computer may have come pre-installed with firewall protection, or you may have installed a firewall to protect from viruses and hackers.   Sometimes this may be a barrier to accessing certain secure web content, such as our library databases.  Firewalls restrict access to ports on your computer used to exchange data between computers and the internet.  

If you are unable to login to access BTC library resources, a firewall might be blocking the ports that are used to communicate with the websites our databases are hosted on.  Our security system uses port 2048.  Contact your Internet Service Provider (such as Comcast) to help you ensure this port is open on your firewall and on your computer.
