Logging Into Remote Desktop

Connecting to the Remote BTC Server

or

Start Button > Programs > Accessories > Remote Desktop Connection

• Once the client starts, type remote.btc.edu

  • After you hit Connect a warning will pop up. Go ahead and press Yes.

  • Once it connects it will ask you to log in. Input your username, as you do when you sign into your student email, so include the BTC Student Server Domain: lastname1234@beltc.ctc.edu or bham-tech\lastname1234 and network password, or the default password if this is your first time ever logging into a BTC Network account (btc-your 8 digit birthday, for example: btc-03091997)

• When you are finished, log off by clicking the Start button and then Log Off.

Using Macs

• You will need to install the Remote Desktop Connection App. Go to the Apple site and get the Microsoft Remote Desktop App from the App Store.  It is a free download.

  • Open the app and click Add “New PC”.
  • Type remote.btc.edu into the “PC name”, and then click “add”.
  • Double-click to open the remote PC you’ve just created—this will prompt a login screen.
  • In the User Name field type Bham-tech\*username*. For example Bham-tech\smith1234
  • If this is your first time ever logging into a BTC Network account, use the default password:  btc-your 8 digit birthday, for example: btc-03091997 .

Using Linux (This may vary depending on which distribution of Linux you have; tested with Ubuntu which allows you to access the Terminal Services client from the following menus):

Applications > Internet > Terminal Services Client.

• Once the client starts, enter remote.btc.edu

• Once it connects it will ask you to log in. Enter your domain and student network user name or the default password if this is your first time ever logging into a BTC Network account (btc-your 8 digit birthday, for example: btc-03091997)

(bham-tech\username or username@beltc.ctc.edu) and password.

• When you are finished, log off the server by clicking the Start button and then Log Off.
