GenAI Disclaimers

Some GenAI chatbots end a response with a disclaimer.  Here's an example of a standard disclaimer:

Disclaimer about Chatbots

Please note that while chatbots, including this one, are designed to provide helpful information, advice, and assistance, they are not perfect and should not be solely relied upon for critical decisions. Responses are generated based on a vast amount of data, but they may not always be fully accurate, up-to-date, or suitable for all situations.

Here are key points to keep in mind:

  • Accuracy: While chatbots aim to provide accurate information, responses may sometimes be incorrect or outdated. Always verify important details from reliable sources.
  • Confidentiality: Avoid sharing personal, sensitive, or confidential information when interacting with chatbots. While efforts are made to maintain privacy, chatbots may not guarantee complete data security.
  • Expert Advice: For medical, legal, financial, or other specialized advice, consult with qualified professionals. Chatbots can provide general information, but they do not replace expert judgment.

Feel free to use the chatbot to gather insights, explore ideas, or find basic answers—but always cross-check critical information when needed.

The reason all chatbots need disclaimers is that they are often not reliable. They can produce misinformation and cite incorrect data.  Some clearly state your need for caution:

"ChatGPT can make mistakes. Check important info."
"Pi may make mistakes, please don't rely on its information."
"Copilot uses AI. Check for mistakes. By interacting with Copilot, you agree to the Terms of Use and confirm you’ve reviewed the Privacy Statement."
