Library Policies (OLD VERSION / REPLACED 10/2/23)

Code of Behavior

A.  LIBRARY PATRON RESPONSIBILITIES

Library patrons are encouraged to be actively involved in the development and provision of library services to best meet their college-related needs.

Each patron is responsible for his/her behavior in the Library.  Any activity which disrupts the Library, endangers the offender or others, or interferes with the Library business of other patrons or staff is prohibited.

In order to encourage and support Library patron responsibilities, the Library may establish procedures and impose penalties as it deems necessary.  This is to ensure fair and proper use of its resources and services, as well as the return of borrowed materials and equipment.  These written procedures and penalties will be available in the library for public review.

Failure to return items will result in the loss of borrowing privileges until all charges are paid.  Transcripts and grades will be withheld from students who have any outstanding Library charges.  The use of the Library or its services may be denied for due cause. Such causes may include failure to comply with library policies, loss or destruction of Library property, disturbance of other library users, or any objectionable conduct in the Library.

 B. CHILDREN IN THE LIBRARY

Children under 18 years old, who are not students, are welcome in the Library when accompanied by their parents or guardians for brief visits. Parents or guardians must directly supervise their children, ensuring they adhere to the same conduct rules as other Library users, which include being quiet and respectful of others and Library property.

Children are not allowed to independently sign up for or use Library computers; they may share one with their parent or guardian. If a parent or guardian fails to address their child's unacceptable behavior after one verbal warning, they will be asked to leave and return to the Library without their child.

Exceptions to this policy may be requested from the Library Director. Non-students under 18 are not permitted to check out Library materials.
