Login Error: Cookies

Error message about "cookies"

If you receive an error message reading like the one below, you will need to enable cookies on your internet browser.

"Licensing agreements for these databases require that access be extended only to authorized users.  Once you have been validated by this system, a "cookie" is sent to your browser as an ongoing indication of your authorization to access these databases..."

To enable cookies, follow the instructions below for the internet browser you are using:

1. Internet Explorer: 

  • Select the tools icon in the upper right corner of the browser, it will look like a cog.
  • Go to Internet Options
  • Select the Privacy Tab
  • Select Advanced
  • Check the box next to accept first-party cookie 
  • Check the box next to accept third-party cookies
  • Check the box next allow session cookies
  • Close Internet Explorer and reopen to ensure changes kick in

2.  Firefox:

  • Select the Menu at the upper right corner of the browser, it will be three short lines.
  • Select Options
  • On the menu on the left side of the screen select Privacy & Security
  • Under "History" change the dropdown menu to "Remember history"
  • Close Firefox and reopen to ensure changes kick in

3.  Chrome

  • Select the Menu at the upper right corner of the browser, it will be three dots
  • Select Settings
  • Select "Advanced" at the bottom of the screen
  • Under Privacy and Security click Content Settings
  • Click Cookies
  • Turn on option "Allow sites to save and read cookie data (recommended)
  • Close Chrome and restart to ensure changes kick in

4.  Safari 

  • The menu will be displayed along the top of the computer window
  • Select Safari
  • Select Privacy
  • Uncheck "Block Cookies"
  • Close Safari and reopen it to make sure changes kick in

Other Cookie Problems

Sometimes cookies are already enabled, but old cookies or other features in your browser history are interfering with your browser's ability to connect to the library's resources.  To fix this, you will need to delete the existing cookies by clearing your browser history.   To do this, find the instructions for the browser you are using below:

1.  Internet Explorer

  • Select the tools icon in the upper right corner of the browser, it will look like a cog
  • Go to Internet Options
  • In the General Tab go to Browsing history
  • Select Delete
  • Make sure Temporary Internet Files, Cookies and History are selected and click Delete

2. Firefox

  • Select the Menu at the upper right corner of the browser, it will be three short lines.
  • Select Options
  • On the menu on the left side of the screen select Privacy & Security
  • Under "History" select "clear your recent history" 
  • In the dropdown menu select "Everything"

3. Chrome

  • Select the Menu at the upper right corner of the browser, it will be three dots
  • Select "History" 
  • In the resulting menu click "History"
  • In the menu on the left side of the screen select "Clear browsing data"
  • Click "Clear Data"

4.  Safari

  • The menu will be displayed along the top of the computer window
  • Select "Safari"
  • Select "Clear History"
